Recipe Description:

Korean bibimbap is a vibrant, nutrient-packed dish that features a mix of fresh vegetables, lean protein, and a savoury sauce over a bed of rice. With its variety of ingredients, including leafy greens, carrots, and mushrooms, bibimbap offers a well-rounded balance of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. Its customizable nature makes it a healthy, versatile meal option for any diet.

Although this dish may appear time-consuming at first glance, it is actually very quick to make! Saladmaster’s patented vapo-valve technology allows you to cook the different elements simultaneously, drastically cutting down your cooking time. Just listen out for the clicking and turn down the heat accordingly.

Once you master frying an egg in Saladmaster, you will never want to use another frying pan again! If you are finding that your eggs are sticking to the pan, it is likely due to one of the following reasons: a) you are not preheating your pan to be hot enough (make sure you perform the water beading test to check it is hot enough); or b) you are keeping the heat too high after you have placed your egg on the pan (ensure you lower the heat once the egg is cooking). You can find an in-depth tutorial on how to fry eggs perfectly in Saladmaster here.

Utensils Used:
Ingredients:

Beef Marinade

  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • 1 tbs sesame oil
  • 1 tbs sugar

Main Dish:

  • 500g beef strips, marinated
  • Handful of spinach leaves
  • Handful of shitake mushrooms, roughly chopped
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 red capsicum
  • Handful of bean sprouts
  • Dash of olive oil (to drizzle on vegetables)
  • 1 tbs Minced garlic
  • 2 tbs sesame seeds
  • 3 tbs water

Serving Sauce:

  • 2 tbs Gochujang sauce
  • 1 tbs sesame oil
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tbs water
  • 1 tbs sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 tsp minced garlic

Serving suggestion: serve with a side of rice.

Method:
    1. Marinate Beef:
In a medium bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil and sugar until well combined. Add beef strips and mix until thoroughly coated. Set aside to let flavours absorb.
    2. Prepare and Cook Vegetables:
Shred carrots using Cone 2 of your Saladmaster Machine. Place in skillet. Place spinach leaves beside carrot in skillet.
    3. Using Cone 3 of your Saladmaster Machine, process zucchini. Place in skillet.
    4. Using Cone 4 of your Saladmaster Machine, process capsicum into fine, long slices. (See our YouTube tutorial for extra guidance on how to chop capsicum with the Saladmaster Machine).
    5. Using Cone 3 of your Saladmaster Machine, chop cucumber into small pieces. Set aside in a separate bowl.
    6. Season vegetables in the skillet with a dash of olive oil, alongside a crack of salt and pepper. Add minced garlic and sesame seeds.
    7. Add 3 tbs water to the skillet and cover with lid. Set stove temperature to medium and allow to cook. When Vapo-valve starts to click, turn heat down to low. Allow to cook for 1 more minute.
    8. Cook Beef and Mushrooms
Preheat your 12-inch Deep Dish on medium heat. Check is pan is sufficiently heated by sprinkling a few drops of water on it. If water beads and “dances” around the pan, it is ready for cooking.
    9. Season mushrooms with a dash of olive oil and a crack of salt. Place mushrooms and beef on the preheated pan and gently mix to prevent sticking. Cover with lid and allow to cook. When vapo-valve starts to click, turn heat to low and allow to cook for a further 10 minutes.
    10. Cook Egg Note: you may skip this step and pour raw egg onto hot dish if you prefer).
Preheat pan on medium heat. Do water test to check that it is sufficiently heated. Turn heat to low, drizzle a thin coating of oil across the pan and crack eggs onto the pan. Place lid on to speed up the cooking process. Allow to cook for approximately 2 minutes (ideally, the yolk and whites are not fully cooked-through).
    11. Make Serving Sauce
Combine serving sauce ingredients in a small bowl and mix until well combined.
    12. Serve: On your desired plate, add meat, vegetables, egg and serving sauce. Serve with rice.
